In our research project we seek to understand the influence of social media on social activism. Our motivation for conducting this research is to better understand if social media use can influence people toward social action in the physical world. We use the term social media primarily to refer to sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. In our definition of social activism, we are considering actions such as voting, signing petitions, participating in marches or protests, and volunteering or fundraising.
